ALFA Library System

The ALFA Library System consists of three libraries located on different campuses: Goiânia (Central Library and Bueno Library) and São Paulo (FADISP Library). The libraries are managed by the PERGAMUM automation system. It provides online data on documents included in the libraries' general catalog and enables consultation of all libraries, allowing the retrieval and location of information of interest in general or by specific unit.

The library collection is updated daily and consists of approximately 70,000 volumes. They are in the form of:

  • Books and periodicals (national and foreign);
  • FADISP intellectual production;
  • DVDs;
  • Video tapes;
  • Dissertations;
  • Database;
  • Others.

With an emphasis on courses taught at the institutions, the library collection covers the following areas: Exact and Earth Sciences; Human Sciences; Applied Social Sciences. The libraries provide terminals for consulting the collection in all units through the Web Query. This tool allows the following types of searches:

  • General Search – free search, by subject and by author;
  • Advanced Search – search by Boolean and other filters;
  • Authorities – search by author (person, institution, collection, series and others).

The purpose of ALFA Libraries is to provide faculty, students, researchers and staff with access to technical and scientific information and materials in areas of knowledge related to the teaching activities carried out by the institution. In addition, ALFA Libraries provide adequate facilities for conducting studies and research.

Collection Update

About the Collection

THE Collection Update Policy covers all forms of acquisition (purchase, donation, subscription and exchange) of everything that will be made available to students. The collections are selected and acquired based on the syllabus of the disciplines. This selection is made according to the basic and complementary bibliographies suggested in the Pedagogical Projects of the Courses by the coordinators and teaching staff, and suggestions from the librarians.

When planning their academic activities, at the beginning of each semester, teachers and coordinators forward bibliographic suggestions regarding general and specific course training to the library for acquisition. This procedure keeps the collection up to date and ensures its expansion in an orderly and optimized manner.

Regarding the number of titles, all those indicated in the basic bibliography and at least 2 (two) from the complementary bibliography of each discipline are purchased. The number of copies is proportional to the number of students and follows the recommendations of official education bodies. However, it is possible to purchase a larger number of copies, depending on the demand for use of the works.
